how much tranny do i need?
OK - first post from a long time lurker. Long and short is my tranny went south (99 Ram 3500 4x4 dually). I've been avoiding the mods to save the tranny - but now i have to do it anyway, so......
Looking at Goerend, billet input, billet intermediate, bolt-in low roller clutch, triple disk billet tq, billet flexplate. I don't drag race or sled pull, but i do tow heavy (like 20k + at times), and i cannot afford to have the truck down - it costs me money. Would like to wind up at about 525HP eventually. Questions - is the billet intermediate and the bolt-in low roller clutch necessary? I know some of you guys run Goerends, how are they holding up long term? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

You will need at least a billet input with that much HP and weight, maybe more depending on exactly how you use your rig. Here is another place that can help also.

Thanks for the replies! I talked to Les at Goerend - says if I really want bulletproof to go with the input and intermediate, but definitely no output. Bolt-in low roller just seemed cheap at $200 when I'm already above $5k for the rest of it. Wow - I knew that auto would bite me sooner or later!

Don't mess with the intermediate, I haven't heard of a stocker breaking yet unless your pushing some serious power, you will be sorry if you don't do billet input and outputs.

I believe the reasoning behind doing the Inter. and not the output is if the output breaks you can just pull the O/D section and it usually doesn't damage anything else, if the Inter. breaks it can destroy the tranny!
