HOw much HP am I wasting with a stock turbo?

So I'm surfing earlier today and I remember Bob Wagner's dyno run of 400hp with just M4s and a Smarty (nee' Catcher) and a DZ turbo.

Then I see a NWB guy who put down 474hp with JUST smarty and M4s with his 01.5 HO truck. Turbo in this case is a full HX40.

Now, judging my SOP feel, I know I have way less than 400hp. Probably like 375 with my stock turbo pushing 36psi (then it drops to 33psi on the MBC).

I'm getting pretty steady stream of smoke at WOT. I can actually roll into the pedal and not have any smoke up to 32psi or so. Then I give it that last little bit of pedal and SMOKE! Lots of SMOKE! Boost is ~36psi.

EGTs during the above situation are crawling up to 1200-- but only if I stay into it up to 80mph or so. I hit the speed limit before I break 1200°.

The truck also has a "tight" feel to it, where to increase in boost feels disproportionate to the increase in acceleration. For example, 25psi doesn't feel much slower than 32psi.

So let's say I go to the other extreme a get a slow-spooling but free-slowing turbo like a SPS66 (I know it's not a dog, but it's slower than stock for sure).

How much HP is going out the pipe due to my stock turbo? The 474hp number for JUST m4s and Smarty seems awful high, but I heard these were "massaged" 4s from Don.

I think a restrictive hot side (stock turbine side, stock exhaust) is really limiting me, but I'm just guessing.....

I have the new ss66 on my truck I like because it dosent spool unless I want it to. If I am going 70 on the highway my boost gauge is on zero. I am running at 800 degrees at 70 mph with my stock exshaust. However the new 66 is pretty responsive when you hit the pedal it takes off.

474 seems a real high for those mods.

Though I never ran your combo I can say on my SO with the drag comp and the Jammer IIs when I put the twins on over the stock 35 the SOTP meter was huge
I never dynoed the truck one way or another but you could sure tell when the engine was burning the fuel and not dumping it out the tail pipe. I would guess your loosing 50+ hp with that stock charger

Maybe he's running 4.5's? Don't the HO's typically show a better than advertised gain with the f-1's?

I can't believe what I'm reading from mr choose spool over cool I know- you just want to consider all your options before dropping coin.
