How much boost with elbow?
I was wondering how much boost a stock hx35 (12cm housing) will create with a boost elbow. How would I go about making the turbo stop at around 32 lbs so im not just making heat? Also would the stock turbo with the elbow take a #10 plate, 3k GSK, straight pipe, BHAF, and 15.5 timing advancment on a 215 hp pump wihtout problems?
Thanks,
Austin.
Thanks,
Austin.

with a tst # 10 straight pipe & open element filter, I made 42-44psi with the stock turbo & a boost elbow, took the elbow off & now it settles in loaded at about 30-32 psi, it max's out at around 35-36, but don't see that too much pulling with the cruise on. I like the sound of things alot better w/out the elbow, just seemed like a little too much boost to me??

Dusty, did you put the stock elbow back in or go to an adjustable unit? Austin, the adjustable elbow will allow you to set the wastegate where you want it, and you can change it as you add other mods.

Austin the elbow will come with the plate kit.
I am at 33 or so down low 3,900 and around 30 where I live 7,200. Max boost you want out of a HX-35 is around 35. After that your pumping hot gases back through.

i put the stocker back on, wouldn't mind trying an adjustable unit though, would be something else to play with, I also went back to my stock airbox w/ an amsoil filter, haven't run it much since I changed the filter, might see some difference there????

graphitecumnz-you can make even more boost, but after ~35 you're making more heat and higher EGT and very likely LESS power. check out some of the wastegate threads floating around the last few months.
Austin, maybe the classifieds here or any of the vendors that deal with boxes and turbos can point you right.

The adjustable elbow is a brass elbow with a set screw tapped in it. Screwing it in closes the air passage from the compressor side to the wastegate thus increasing boost. A stock 35 is good to 35-36 psi, then it starts to make heat. FWIW, they tend to hold together to at least 50 psi.
