How much additional HP is safe
My truck is pretty much dedicated to the Lance 1030 cabover at 11000lbs. I sure don't want to trash the tranny so how much extra HP is safe? I 'm thinking of a Dr. Performance stage 1 or 2 which adds from 70 to 100 HP but that seems like a lot. All I really want is increased MPGs. I drive for mileage and won't be bombing up any hills, would this ofset any extra strain on the transmission? There are so many claims out there I have no way of knowing which box will really give me what I want. Any help would be appreciated

I would recommend an Edge EZ. If you really want a nice setup add some Formula One 1.6 injectors..... The additional timing of the EZ along with the improved spray of the injectors should keep egt's in check and add the HP you are looking for. On a side not you should see a slight increase in MPG

I'm not going to knock Dr. P, but I've never heard anything good about the product. Go with and edge ez, power puck, van aaken, or some type of small timing box. This will be about the max I would recomend for a stock auto. Some will say get to use RV275's with with the timing box. I think thats pushing it.

I would also recommend a Van Aaken, or Edge EZ module, it will make towing much easier, and give you slightly better mileage, but probably skip injectors. I had a Van Aaken on for 5 years, and shift kit,and held up quite well towing 19,000lbs.(total GVW approx). You should also adjust transmission bands,c/o oil and filter, and install shift kit. This will help hold the extra power without roasting Torque Converter. If you have done lots of towing for 3+ years(by your sig),and lots of miles, your T.C. may already be on the weak side(not saying it is).
You could get a competent shop to inspect and do work, and they will advise as to status of trans, if you don't have time or place to do. Have you felt any slipping/revving up or shudder in 3rd or 4th when going into lockup,or while in lockup? This will give a good indication of state of your tranny, and your next step.Good luck.

An EZ is all that stock auto is going to put up with for any length of time when grossing out at 11,000 lbs.....while Jetpilot's suggestion of running the EZ with some Mach 1.6's would be one of the best combos for mileage gains, it will easily net an additional 150 RWHP and likely a bit more.....this will end up being way more than what that auto will put up with - especially with a load.....I would stick with the EZ until you did some tranny upgrades.....at least a good valve body or shift kit and a converter.
