How many miles will a vp44 normally last?
I'm just wondering how long vp44's normally last (milage wise) cause I bought my 01 used and it now has 165000 miles on it and i dont know if its ever been replaced? I'm not to worried about it now cause my truck runs just fine, I'm just curious. thanks for the help.....

Mine lasted 103,000miles and was the original as far as i know. I think the truck had definitely been turned up before but the dealer didn't know. Definitely get a fuel pressure gauge soon cause i had to replace both lift/ injector pump at the same time. The truck ran fine until it just died while driving down the road. Good luck.

Nobody knows...
But having a fuel pressure guage will let you know when the LP dies, the VP will die soon after. That's why you NEED a fuel pressure guage.
I learned the hard way...don't be like me.

I have 165k on the original VP-44 and it has been tapped with a TST PM3 for over 5-years. As stated - get a fuel pressure gauge installed. My LP was dying a few weeks ago and I installed a FASS 150 to make sure my VP stays happy. Now if you will excuse me - I need to go knock on every piece of wood I can find in the house...

163,364. I drive easy, no problems.....boom coast to a stop, 25 degrees out side, middle of the night. Try to restart..nothing.
I thought I was one of the 1 % that bad things never happen to. I should have looked closer...35 degrees sleet, no start, 5 mile walk home. Next day walk 5 miles more to auto parts store and 2 more to the truck with a starter under arm.
Before that monsoon time in TN and lift pump goes out. Hour in the rain fixed that. Guess that tells me don't go out in bad weather...bad things happen haha
160,000 miles on a VP-44...living on borrowed time. You need to throw a penny a mile in a piggy bank. Just about cover it.

I have 130k on mine now. I lost the lift pump same day i bought it and starved it for fuel..... that was about 20k ago, it seems to still be doing fine. ordered a fuel press gauge and a holley blue "helper pump" a day ago. But like these guys said keep er cool by keeping enough fuel to it and keep it lubed (I use power service in the white jug in the winter and just straight 2 cycle oil in the summer) and hope for the best!!
