Question how many have broken billet shafts

i just snaped the stock input shaft off in my suncoast 3disk last week.2 weeks prior the flex plate snaped and was replaced with a stock one. It took the front pump with it this time.Had to send the converter to suncoast to get the shaft removed.

my plans are replace the front pump and upgrade to the suncoast flex plate and their billet input and output shafts

my question is how many have snaped billet parts on a non sled pulling truck

Thanks
Tim

Are you doing 4x4 launches? When I bought my trans I had to at the very least buy the billet input shaft or they wouldn't allow their warranty to be in effect for the HP range. Sounds like you need a billet input shaft and flex plate. Thats a quick $2K. I would imagine that the right abuse or conditions you could break a billet shaft.

it's less then 2 grand for the billet input and flex plate, $1174 off their site for the pair.

I just broke a billet shaft yesterday and broke the pump drive and the piece of shaft is stuck in the converter.. It lasted almost 3 years of abuse. Towing sled pulling and lots of 4wd launches!Im pretty happy that it lasted this long the truck was at about 400hp for about 2 years and 500+ then nitrous on top of that for the past year or so. And this is with 37s

Goerend has cheaper shafts. call dave and get a billet input intermediate and ouput with a billet flex plate. Pull it apart and stab it back in. Should only take a weekend.

Over 500 hp you are living on the edge, IMO, with a stock input & output shaft.

You're not the only one with a Suncoast who has done that kind of damage. Sorry for the bad luck.

Edit: I don't mean this to come across as a slam on Suncoast products. A friend of mine has a Suncoast and had similar breakage.

Scary stuff, but, while that input shaft wasn't designed for that type power, it shattered amongst the splined end, not at the drum - the previous flexplate damage probably initiated the failure.

Good reason for the 305\350hp flexplate and high-tensile steel input shaft in the 48re, and better.
