How to make my Cummins sound like a dump truck ?
How can I make my rig sound like a dump truck/big rig? My silencer ring is gone, I know that is step one. What eles do I have to do? 4" Straght pipe exhaust and a BHAF maybe? Any information would be appreciated.

Sounds like a good plan to me. My dad says mine sounds like a dump truck (I don't think he meant that in a good way
). BHAF and a 4" straight pipe, and I replaced the corrugated tube between the filter and the turbo with straight tubing and elbows.

I thought so. Did replacing the corrugated flex tube to the turbo add any more to the whistle?

Yeah, I get called a lot of things these days!
4" straight pipe, BHAF, no ring, and you will rattle windows.![Crazy!](https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)

[/quote]Yes, it made the turbo whistle louder. It may not have as much effect on your truck because your duct is shorter from the factory. Your turbo is louder than mine already since the H1C on the 1st gen doesn't have the map width enhancement slots that the silencer ring covers on the '95 and newer trucks.

I didn't know the first gens were longer. Mine is probbly 1 and a half foot is you lay it straight. Do you have a picture of your setup? I attached one of mine. You are right about the slots the silencer ring covers, have no idea what they are for though.

As you can see, the 1st gen setup is a bit different.
The stock duct is a little over 2 feet long.

A scotty air system with the hole cut and a DPP 4" Exhuast all the way back. The guy's at work allways tell me "I allways wondered what our dump trucks sounded like with a stick". ![Laughing](https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/smilies/laughing.gif)
I LOVE THE SOUND! ;D

I only have the silencer ring removed and a straight 3" pipe from the turbo back and she sounds like a big rig. I can raddle windows on houses alongside the road if I get on it a little, especially when the TC locks up!!! It whistles pretty good too. I'm happy for now. That only cost me $50 too. Soon I will upgrade to a 4"straight back and a BHAF.

I had the muffler and resonator removed and 4'' straight pipe put in from there back - no silencer ring either. Haven't changed air filter setup yet, but I can tell you it's loud now! First thing ya gotta do is find a tunnel or overpass and roll the windows down.... ;D ;D This is how a truck is supposed to sound! 8)

Definatly go 4". It will sound a lot better (not quite as "ratty" and it will be a lot deeper sound than 3"
I will second what Yellowhammer said "This is how a truck is supposed to sound" 8)

Straight pipe will sure help. I'm sure stacks would further the effect.![Big Grin](https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Re:How to make my Cummins sound like a dump truck ?
Forgive my ignorance because I'm new to this guys. But I'd love to increase the whistle-like ramping tone sound of [what I assume is] the Turbo Charger on my 2001 2500 SLT. About how much do these mods cost and how hard are they to do yourself (I'm great at following directions but just don't know all the terminology yet)?
Also, what does BHAF stand for? Thanks!
