On most of the trucks around here that have run high temps, we see some vertical etching on the cylinder walls. The one's with the deepest etching correlate with the highest/longest temp trucks (>1400F >10secs). It also correlates with the trucks who have more blow-by. It takes a lot to ruin one of these engines (1400F, >3 miles and no coolant), but it doesn't take much to ruin a perfect cylinder wall and a perfect seal.

If you're running the truck at 1500 for any longer than 2-3 seconds, you are causing harm.

I hit 1600 one time at around 110 mph

Normally I don't even see 1300, but I leave the tst turned down low.

thanks for the input, i know there have been alot of trucks with crack heads due to high temps. I havent seen alot of blow by from my truck, and havent seen it get "much" worse although i have seen it get worse! Ive still got the bottle so i cant really tell! I just saw a guy take of his head and had visable cracks. He ran super high egts with the back side of the 40 ontop loose and leaks everwhere! But i didnt see any vertical scaring but didnt have time to pay much attention. I think i might go ahead and save up for a new block just to play with. Ive probably held 1500 + for 5-15 !
im not really sure how long ive held and what ive held, and im not honestly really worried about it, just curious on everyones thoughts

This is really a 3rd Gen answer but may give you some pointers. Quote from Don M.

"IN conversations with Dennis Hurst ( chief engineer on the Dodge Spec ISB ) he swears the 600 engines can go 1450 degrees all day long without damage. I believe him.
The problems start when you add aftermarket fueling modifications.
If Dennis says 1450, go 1450, but that is with a stock truck. Modded trucks and towing? Thats where things get fuzzy. I keep mine under 1200, for continuous running."

Hope this helps?

Stock, my 2002 HO would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT towing a 5th wheel up a grade (not lugging). With my mild bombs, I can hit 1450 degF if I'm not watching it. I drive by the pyrometer, however, and hold it to 1150 to 1200 degF maximum on the grades. Then again, I'm a conservative guy who doesn't want to walk home!

I also have a conern about heat. I have no idea how hot my truck will run if I ever get it put back together but im sure it will be hot enough. 215pump stock 181dv's DDP4's #100 plate and SPS62. Will that water/meth stuff help enough to be worth the cost and does it function automaticly or do you have to spray it everytime you see the needle climb high. I'm ususaly against drugs in any of my motors but i think ill need some cooling help.

You pre set initial boost level for spraying.... and max boost level for full pump pressure. Pump gradually 'ramps up' between the two setting you select on the controller.

Excellent for towing, IMO. Lowers EGT's 200+* on long hill pulls when heavy.

Thats pretty cool. My engine bay is starting to get crowded. Where do you mount the holding tank? I assume theres some sort of holding tank. Is it just one that you mix the goods into?

Most towers use Windshield Washer fluid.... 20% (30% in Winter Blend) Meth, cheap and easy to find. Mine is plumbed into my washer fluid bottle, but that's mostly for racing. For long trips, towing, you need a larger reservoir. Most mount it in the truck bed... 8 gallons. and yes, it's pre mixed.

Could I just strap a big tank on my frame rail next to my air tank?

I have digital gauges and it shows your peak EGTs which mine stands at 1733 degrees. I think you should be okay for short periods of time. I hit that peak drag racing someone and that was only a few seconds toward the end of the quarter-mile. I see on your post that you have Mach6s and I only have Mach4s so you probally are a little higher. The only true fix is twins!!!!

The highest I hit this last weekend at the dragstrip was a little over 1200*. This was doing mid 12 second passes. Last year at about the same power level, I was at 1450. Twins and a cam work wonders!
