How to Improve Fuel Mileage

I am driving a pretty much stock '01 4x4 quad cab CTD and getting around 17-18 mpg. I was hoping for around 20mpg when I bought the truck based on stories I had heard. Is there anything I can do to get the mpg's up....besides pushing the truck around?

I get about 17.7-18.5 ish, I romp on it every so often to though. (same truck minus the exhaust).

Keep your tires aired up = Rougher ride, but better MPG's.
If we weren't facing $80.00 to $100.00 fill ups I would say an EZ or maybe MAD ECM would help you a mile per or so.
See my sig, I'll be lucky if I'm not thumbing it soon..........

With all due respect, I don't think that's bad fuel economy. I think the next step is buying a Honda!

A set of bosch 275/300 injectors will help the mileage. They bumped mine up about 1-2mpg. I can hit 20mpg even with everything I've done.

A sacrifice in response, but the larger turbo housing will help, EZ and 275 help. Straight pipe will help a little. Make sure your fan is releasing or go to a smaller fan drive.

Air up your tires and plan your trips better. The best way to get better MPG.

Driving habits! I work @ a dealership and see mileage all the way across board on like vehicles, and what I've seen is because the way the vehicle are driven. Some are easy on the GO pedal other are HEAVY. I'm pretty easy on the GO pedal myself, especially on long trips. I usually average 21-22 on trips cruising 68-70mph. When I first got the truck, before the BOMBs I averaged 19-20. Just my $.02

Jeep is releasing a Liberty w/ a 4cyl CUMMINS motor sometime in 06'. It will be in response to the POWERSTROKE escape...

Both are supposed to average 40MPG in the city!!!

My girl friend is first in line to trade in her Turbo Diesel jetta...

Get an Edge EZ, I gained about 2-2.5 mpg on the freeway, and almost as much around town, plus the truck will be more fun to drive.
