How far to push a "53" block

I just put in the Smarty as my first real power upgrade. I love the way it drives but it falls on it's face on the high end. I want to put in some Jammer nozzels but I am not sure which ones to get. I have a "53" block and I don't want to get carried away. What do you think?

i have 225,000 on my 53 and no problems. i am the third owner so i don't know what the previous owners did but the injection pump has never been tapped when i bought it and the tranny looked to be the original one as well. i only have an ez on mine so i am not worried. i've heard, just heard from some, that if a 53 is going to crack it should do so before 100,000 miles. but then again i think that some other people had theirs go out after that. i don't think anyone knows. i would eventually like to have 350 to 400 hp to the wheels and i am worry free about having that much power and having trouble with the block.

I wouldn't push it at all.....but I'd drive the heck out of it.

Seriously though, mine's a '99 but I don't know if it has a 53 block or not. I don't figure it would do me much good to know. It wouldn't change the way I drive it.

i had the 53 with 141,000 on it with the mods in my sig and then with no warning there it went and it went BAD took it to cummins west here in fresno,ca and they gave me a brand new short block with the updated block. it may seem fine but it could crack at any time. i would personally be carefull. but thats me

Unhappy i wouldn't

You better look for a 12 valve or replacement 24v engine before too long, usually only heavy towing with/and/or lots of power kills them..here is mine with 160,000 miles on it..apparently it had been cracked and welded once before i had it
