how does h20/meth work??

I dont quite understand how the water part of water/meth injection systems works.. I always thought that water in the fuel was a BAD thing .. Just curious, could someone explain this to me.. Thanks, A.Wall

it sprays water and methanol in a super fine mist like nitrous into the engine which cools the fuel and the heat of the burn and it also cleans the engine head and pistons the methanol aids in a complete burn of the #2. water in the fuel is bad in hole form because it wears on all of the parts and it also clogs things. when sprayed iin a seperate system it does fine its not a huge amount its like a super fine mist.

The water turns to steam. And there is a steam engine effect. Combined with the normal combustion effect there is more force pushing on the pistion and more Hp is produced.

To make steam requires heat. The heat comes from combustion, thats why EGT's get lower.

Methanol is also a fuel that burns, which adds directly to the combustion.

Not sure what you mean by the Steam engine effect?? I my mind converting the H2O to steam takes heat, yes,...but it takes it away from combustion. Thus a cooling effect.

Straight water injection was used for years in reciprocating engines in WW II fighter aircraft... as a cooling agent to allow more fuel to be pumped in. My understanding is that the added fuel, not the steam produced, is what added power!

AWALL - As a side note, Testing done by Catapillar proved that the average diesel engine produces one gallon of water for every gallon of fuel burned. It comes from rapid heating & cooling of outside air introduced into the combustion chamber.

So adding a mist of water in the combustion chamber is not a problem, IMO!
