How do I re-Torque my Head bolts?
I want to retorque my head bolts but I don't have a descent manual yet (its on order) Does anyone have a pic of how to do it?
Do I just pull the valve cover off and torque in that area or is there more stuff to remove? I don't know alot past an injector install on my truck. If anyone can help out with specs and the pattern to torque and the amount to torque please let me know. Since I will surely be running more Boost with the B1KS I want to make sure and get it setup right before I blow a gasket!

these headbolts are torq. to speck and then 90 deg more, there is no retorq like in the old days....and as far as i know you will distort the head gskt by doing so.
next and others will tell you differantly but,, just thow your head bolts out!!! (should you decide to pull the bolts). Cummins has had problems with head bolts sence the late 70s
oh yea there is a way to measure them blah blah.
t.m.o. but you asked for it

When I installed my B1 I wasnt figurrin on havvin to replace the head gasket, but I was WRONG!!!! I know youll probably think Im tryin to rain on your parade but if it were me I would go ahead and put head studs and fire rings in it 8). I know its a lot more cash but if your luck is like mine youll blow it three days after the install :'(. I guess you may not be runnin as much boost as I am with the full B1 (55-60 lbs) but Ill bet youll be close.
Im not much for the 24 valvers but I know with my good ol 12ver there are 27 head bolts ( now that I think about it 27 may not be correct
... any how I just torqued all mine down today and there is a bunch of em')
BTW: you will... [glow=red,2,300]LOVE[/glow] your new turbo ;D ;D ;D ;D

Jamie, I will Pm you how I did it. Haisleys machine showed me and so far my stock head gasket is holding 60-65 psi with no problems. Tim

Use a good lever torque wrench so you can see if the bolts are stretching or actually getting tighter. THe clich type wrenches are bad news IMO.
Just something to keep in mind. If they start to stretch, buy new bolts (ARP?) or do as suggested above...good luck and keep us posted.

The rockers are a snap... just remove the bolt on top that holds them down and remove the whole assembly (both intake and exhaust and the splitters) all at once.

Jamie,
You need a tech manual.
Dont forget to number the rockers, so you dont mix them up.
Also, try to keep from removing the push rods, they are all different lengths by a couple thousandths.
And if installed in different locations, they will affect your lash.

If your going to retorque : head bolts 90ftlbs+90 degrees
rocker pedistals 18mm 90+90
13mm 18ftlbs
and since you removed them reset your overhead since it won't be the same after the retorque.
