How can I cut it down?

Well as some of you know I just put some 6" miter cut stacks on my truck, but they are a wee bit to tall for my likings. So the question is how can I cut it down? There not like a regualer 5" stack where as the whole thing is 5" and I can just cut the bottom off, mine are tapered from 6" to 5" at the bottom. What would be the best way to recut the top of the stack so it will be "mitered" again? Will the chrome chip? Will it rust? I would rather take it some where and let someone else do it with the right saw so it would come out right. Any suggestions are welcome.

Well, I cannot say much as I free handed my mitre cuts, mine where originally straight cuts, I used a grinder cut off wheel to do mine then cleaned up the cuts with a grinding wheel, I do not worr about chrome chipping or rust, because that part of the stack is never cleananyhow, its allways black., it goes on how much you trust yourself to cut them up yourself. another way would be if you took it to a welding shop, they should have a ban saw with a swivel to cut angles or a chop saw, of some type, you could put the stack in the vice part, set the angle and cut away.

Yeah thats what I figured. Its just hard for me to do it myself as the only thing I have access to is a circular saw, but I could go out and get a metal cutting blade for it. Sucks being off at school with hardly any tools!

How much of an angle did you cut them at, 45?

I saw your pics in the other thread and the stacks look great! I actually have the same kit coming right now. I couldn't see how you have the hole cut in your bed, but if you cut the hole in more of an oval shape it will allow the crossover to sit closer to the bottom of the bed and lower the stacks at the same time. But the way since I have the same kit coming how was the install?

Just go to your local machine shop and have them cut them in there band saw. It will take them less then 5 min. each.
Good luck,
