how 2 identify an upgraded tranny
hey, how do you identify an upgraded automatic transmission?
a friend of mine has a truck for sale, wit a dif tranny under it, then normal!
i have no clue what it is, i just know that it shifts better, and the oil pressure seems to be higher in the lower gears then the stock one!
the pan under the tranny has "may tech" or sumthing, and beside the tranny is a ??"small round vacum cylinder" with BD on it, but its disconnected!
the truck has no luck up switch!
ah and it has a Banks power sticker on the door, and a banks plate in the pump!
any ...??? prices, type, make? HP that it should hold! (would be apreciated,
thx. silvano

The BD cylinder sounds like their little toy that tricks the tranny in to adding more line pressure by thinking that the throttle is pushed farther than it actually is. The Mag Hytec cover is a deeper tranny pan to hold more fluid. If the trans shifts firmly and doesn't require a lot of throttle to accelerate then I'm betting it's been built. Other than that, there's no easy way to tell. Maybe try and find the previous owner and ask him/her what's done to it.

pull the 3 bolts that cover the torque converter. many companies paint their TC's a certain color. I would hope you'll find the same company's TC and valve body in the truck...
If the TC also has a drain plug, that's a sure sign it's an aftermarket convertor.

The BD pressure lock device (air cylinder servo) is just an mickey mouse way of cranking up your line pressure for your clutches. It works, sort of.. A worked tranny wont have that on it. My guess is that its a stock tranny with a valve body, aftermarket converter. This works well unless your running over 400rwhp and over 1000ft*lbs. Over that its gonna be junk in a hurry.

well the truck is here in mexico, probably because bad fuel lines! It would not start up, w/o pushing compressed air into the fuel tank!
the oil line just above the tank had a hole in it, they fised it and now its good!
just: which 3 bolts have to be removed to see the TC?
thnx
