Hot Rod VP or not?

My VP44 seems to be dying quickly, I'm wondering whether I should replce it with a hot rod version for extra power, or should I just go with the stock unit and get a chip instead? My truck is stock now, and I don't need tons of power as I rarely tow, and I'm not a total speed freak. I plan to do a cold air intake and 4" exhaust soon, but the pump is gonna have to get done first. What do you guys think I should go with? For the $650 difference in pump price, I could buy myself a decent chip.

Yes. I think the stock VP would be best for your truck.

Alot of options:
-(120hp)Juice/Attitude from Edge $650ish of Ebay, comes with gauges
-(60hp) Big in the seat of the pants though) Smarty plus gauges, $1k
-(60hp) Edge EZ plus gauges $700

It all depends on what you want. You can find a used ez for $200 like I did. The smarty is $695 I think but everyone who has them loves them, suggested more than the EZ by most people on here. If you go for the Smarty or the Juice your gonna get into clutch issues more than likely. The EZ will work great with a set of 275 injectors, and would put you at really close to 300hp with no EGT problems.

Do a search on each of these products on here and you will find more than enough info on all of them.

It is all in the eye of the beholder, many of us said a more little power and we are done. My pump died last year the day after I installed the Comp, my bad. Too much for an old pump. I figgered since I was replacing the pump anyway, why not go HRVP and get the extra ponies. So my Comp ended up costing me almost $2400. If you REALLY do not want more power, replace with stock. Or go HRVP and Smarty, you will not be sorry.

I would say go for the Hot Rod pump

Once you start bombing, it just never ends.

Then you will need the gauges, exhaust and intake. Then you will get box. Then clutch/tranny, injectors, turbo, etc.

Since you have an SOVP IMO you'll be better of with the stock VP. The HRVP is more for the HO's or the people that don't want to tap the pump wire.

My thoughts are for guys not running a wire tap box, are in need of a IP, and would like more power anyways than HRVP is the way to go. Good for 80 hp. 80 hp injectors would cost about the same as the price difference between the pumps.

is this true? the HRVP is actually a performance mod, and not just support for performance mods? I thought it was the latter...

I don't have before/after dynos, but I if my smarty gave me 60 hp and my mach 4's gave me 150, I still have an another 80 hp coming from somewhere
