Homemade Pusher Setup???

Gents,

I was thinking about adding a pusher pump for my truck and I had a few questions...

1. What kind of pump is everyone using? I went by my local O'Reiley's before I put my lift pump on and had them try and cross the Carter number and couldn't get anything but Iwas leaning towards another Carter. They listed a pump in the Carter book that pumped a good volume at like 18psi. I am very hesitant to go with something like a Holley blue pump..

2. How do you get into the plastic fuel lines back by the tank to hook up to the pump? Replace them with rubber line? Thoughts?

3. Wiring, just splice the wiring into the stock lift pump wiring or should I set up a relay that is triggered by the stock lift pump that feeds bat voltage to the pusher?

Ideas on any of this would be greatly appreciated, I DO NOT want to have to replace my injection pump AGAIN and I'd love to know a hundred dollar investment would prevent a $1500 failure again....

Thanks in advance,

Re:Homemade Pusher Setup???

Quote from some old post o mine

I did just install a pusher pump to the frame right in front of the tank.
The guy at the parts store said something about 12 weeks for the cummins pump. I went with one of the pumps used for the cooling devices on trucks- 100 gph at 10 psi. Cost about 60 US$.
One separate relay , fuse+holder and a zener diode about US$ 6
One hour of work
I've got 6 psi at 1/2 speed pump ( while starting) and 11 psi idle to WOT.

Edit- set the pressure regulator to 14psi , now from idle to WOT.

AlpineRAM
Re:Homemade Pusher Setup???

There are some kits out there with all the hardware included. I think Jannetty Racing has one, and maybe Stefan with DTT.

Re:Homemade Pusher Setup???

Anyone else out there tried to make a HOMEMADE pusher setup? Nothing against vendors but I enjoy undertaking a project every now and then... hence the homemade boost fooler and High idler (<--under construction).

My main concern is about the fuel lines... how to get into the plastic lines.. replace all the way from the tank to the lift pump or???

Re:Homemade Pusher Setup???

I just cut into the original lines and fixed them on the pump with aircraft style fuel hose clamps. Used a relay and a zener diode to avoid overpressure at startup. Cummins enginees made the pump run slow during cranking.

HTH
AlpineRAM
