Holley Blue, or Carter 4601hp
I think im gonna throw a pusher pump on the old 12 valve to try and stop my high RPM stuttering, and what seems like a lack of fuel in the higher rpm's(3k plus). Which pump would be more reliable, or better, and for what reasons? My buddy had the carter on a 24 valve, and it served him good. Held good pressure, and never gave out on him. The Holley is a little cheaper. I can get a summit rebadged holley blue for about $100, the carter is more around $120.
Carter specs are 100gph free flow, and 14-16psi
Holley Blue is 110gph free flow, and 14psi
And I am guessing any pump that is good for gas will pump diesel? Seems to me diesel would lubricate better, and be easier on seals than gas, so I dont see where there would be a problem.
Ill be keeping my stock lift pump in place, but my question is, will it suck through the holley/carter if I wanted to just have it on a switch, and didnt want to use it? Thanks for any help
Eric

Either one of those pumps would become a restriction against which the factory pump would try to pull fuel.
Whats your fuel pressure when it starts sputtering?
I doubt your stock pump is not capable of suppling the fuel you need.

I have cleaned every filter in the system, including in the tank, replaced the lift pump with a brand new one from Marty Tompkins, and stretched the overflow spring. Timing is also advanced to 16*. I dont really think a pusher pump would be a restriction, but maybe im wrong. Josh(teddy bear) on here, my cousin has a 97 that is making over 500hp on the stock lift pump, and it will rev to well over 4k with no stuttering without a problem. Most all of the 180hp and 215hp pumps I have seen are smooth as butter all the way past 4k with a stock lift pump. And most all the 160 and 175 pumps i have seen stutter past 3k-3200rpm. I know someone who had that problem, and put an aeromotive system on the truck, and said now it revs smooth as butter as far as you want to push it. I know the stock lift pump will supply the fuel i need to make power, but im pretty sure it seems to run out of fuel in the higher RPM's. Unless maybe i need to advance my timing on up there. I killed my fuel pressure gauge before i put the new lift pump on, so I need to buy a new gauge and check it again i guess, but i just wish it would keep pulling above 3k RPM's in gear.
