I am wondering if every 6spd truck is and HO? If not how can I tell the difference? I am looking into buying a 2001 or 2002 ram 2500 and would like to have the SO pump, but a 6spd as well.

All 6 speeds in 01-02 will be HO's, all 99-00 with 6 speeds will be SO's. Go ahad and get the HO, it won't be to long before you have to replace it, then you can get a SO pump.

 

just remember the 99-00 6 speeds have the 1-1/4 input shaft like the 5 speed.

 

so would you get the SO truck with a 1.25 shaft and upgrade it, or a HO and replace the HO pump with and SO?

 

You will be replacing the pump on eather truck sooner or later. so get the 01-02. You probley can't fine a 99-00 with a 6speed if you wanted too. (rare as hens teeth) You won't need the SO pump till you get up to around the 500 mark anyway.
