High Tech Turbo question

Got a chance to do some testing today, this is what i found. I put the boost elbow that came with my edge comp in the htt in place of theirs and i was easily able to peg 40 psi. I then turned my meth on which normally dosnt seem to work right and the the truck came alive, could get it to peg 45psi. Now im going to try to adjust the wastegate because it seems im hitting about the 40psi mark that htt sets them for!

I had to cut up my MBRP downpipe to get the HX40 to work, a bit too short. I also have a clearance issue between the downpipe and frame. A ballpeen hammer should fix that. Are you gonna have it in by Saturday?

Not a chance Tate. I have to do front axle seals, vaccum pump seal and a rear main seal. Had a streak of repairs lately and it sucks... The rear main seal was a real bummer because I just put in a new on when they put my clutch in. I think they put the seal in wet not dry. I paid $2100.00 delivered to my door with downpipe, great service too. The north boys wanted $2500.00 for a phatshaft 62 that they didn't have in stock plus $250.00 for a downpipe!! Is there a meet this weekend?

I don't think so, but I am heading back to Forestburg Saturday afternoon, was gonna drop in on you, see that stainless turbo in action. I'd love to have a back to back comparison between the SPS62 and the HTT62/13. Turn the TST off, and our combos are nearly identicle.

I had the same issues...Here is my list.
1.] Installed a 64/14 HTB2....spooled slow [around 1800rpm], high egts [1600* fast towing 15k], lots of smoke [too much for the street].
2.] Installed a 12 housing to get faster spoolup....lit at 1700rpm, higher egts, no better.
3.] Installed a 62/12 HTB2....fast initial spoolup [around 1100rpm], but slow to reach peak boost towing 15k = too much heat.
4.] Installed a 14 housing to lower temps.....fast spoolup [around 1150rpm], but still not fast to peak out. It was very well mannered & manageable towing manners with big sticks.
5.] Installed a Super Stock 62 with 71mm killer wheel....Lights off at 1300rpm, lowered temps to 1200*max towing 15k, reaches peak boost by 1700rpm on a hard fuel, more fun to drive, over 50 psi boost at a throttle blip.
I've been there, done that. I still think that the SS62 is the best turbo for anyone who tows or just wants a great driveable turbo that can handle 125-150hp sticks perfectly. If you want to keep a 64 compressor happy for the street....a 200hp stick is what I'd recommend, but you are missing out. Just my $.02 after a long list of trying, buying & crying. I hope this helps guys.

also do you think the SS62 could handle some 200-220hp stixs and smarty, no fueling box.

Just ordered my new turbo by JLent's recommendation. Can't wait!! I got the Series 71 62/13SS with a downpipe and HTT manifold. This should keep my EGT's in check.... or else I just flushed alot of $$$$. I will keep you posted on what it does for my 12V.

Members with automatics should be careful when getting turbo recommendations from those with stick shifts!
With big fuel...it's a whole different scenario trying to get drivability (control smoke and spoolup) with an auto....and many with one type tranny have never even driven the other! Auto's with 14 cm turbine housings are very laggy ....as a rule. More fuel can make the problem worse!
Driving a 5 speed for 3 days was a real eye opener for me. Much easier to control smoke and a laggy turbo by winding out the gears a bit! A completely different truck, IMO!

I dont have any problems with my set up except curvy mountain passes. If i can do 75 it stays cool, but if any slower i have to be in 3rd haha wich i dont mind hearing the truck make some noise. Spool up isnt to bad, it was awesome in the winter but i did notice its a bit smokey when its 90 or up outside. I dont tow anything either but sometimes i wind up having 1-2 tons in the bed of the truck, and it actually runs cooler cruising with the load. I dont have a clue on what my boost is cause i only have a 40lb gauge right now, but i think the needle has a little bend in it from pegging it really quick.
