Anyone have their exhaust manifold coated (HTC, Jet Hot, etc..)?

I was thinking about having a brand new 3 piece manifold done as well as the downpipe. Any thoughts?

I have my twins piping, exhaust manifold, and downpipe powder coated with a high temp black velvet powder. Only have about 5,000 miles on the setup but no change in shine or anything yet!! See my gallery for some pics...

I have the exhaust on my Polaris Jet Hot coated. They have great customer service & good quality work.

My manifold and some other stuff is HPC coated. It looks a lot better than rust

I have my manifold and exhaust housing coated by PolyDyn in Houston, and yes, it definately does look better than rust!

Yes, I think it is worth it. I hate rust, and it looks purdy

It's worth it IMO. It's main purpose is to keep heat contained so that it keeps the engine compartment cooler.

I would absolutely do it. When I build the twins they will all be coated. Coating will reduce turbo lag as well. Remember its the heat that does the work in that turbine, so keep the heat in the exhaust gasses and keep the turbine housing hot.

How do the 3-piece manifolds get done? Do they just do the 3 pieces seperately? How is the coating in regards to thickness to where the 3 pieces mate up to each other?

My experience with the coatings on my drag car headers are that they never chip. It appears to actually impregnate the material, as opposed to 'coat' it. I have however, suceeded in removing the coating due to extreme heat, right at the first elbow, 2 to 4 inches from the head, but remember, this is a gasser in a restricted carb class, and its very possible to lean it out too much on the big end of the track if your not careful, which has happened to me. What happens is the coating seems to just dissapate away to the point where its a bit dull now, and then you notice some rust starting to 'bleed' through. I will post a picture of this in my gallery. I have never seen a 'chip' or flake on mine or any other drag car. Most of us, me included use JetHot brand. I used their basic striling siver version which is rated 1,300 F, but they now have a new version, MC-15, which is still the pretty silver color, but handles 1,400 to 1,700F. Their 'hi-temp' version, is flat black (not very pretty at all) or a new blue color, which looks quite neat, and its garanteed 2,000F continous, 2,450F peak, nobody on here is going to damage that coating.
