I still think my idea from Saturday night is best.
Remove the IAT, plug the hole, relocate the IAT to the actual air intake path.
Someone try this and let me know what happens....
I don't have mine bombed enough for it to make a difference.
P.S. With all the mods getblown5.9 has done to his truck and the amount of soot it blows. I would not doubt the IAT was that black.

I had 3 cyl cut out come on last week here when we dipped into the -30c. I forgot to plug in one night anyways, go out to startup at 0515 @ -30c the truck fires but its bucking like a wild horse..............60 seconds ramp-up begins. still burping and farting at 1200rpm them BAM it smooths right out when it dropped the 3 holes.......heated right up, well after 15 minutes it defrosted the windshield.
I love it

the soot blowing exhaust wise doesnt really affect the IAT too much unless you float the valves and the soot is able to get back into the intake manifold...and with 45+ psi of positive pressure going INTO the cylinder, no soot will blow back to the manifold. the previous owner of my truck ran a filter that was over oiled, which is why mine was in such bad shape.
doug smith showed me the build up in the manifold when i took him my head for the work. i barely oiled my filter the one time i cleaned it. last time i had the grid heater off my manifold was as clean as when doug did the machine work. i had never cleaned the IAT when i re-did the head tho...and i put it back in dirty and black as can be because i thought it was supposed to be black.

I'd reckon that as long as your truck has sat for an extended period of time in those temps(6+ hours) and your high idle still isn't working, then you have a sensor issue. These engines really need to be cold soaked as they retain quite a bit of heat. My high idle works just fine as long as the truck has sat long enough. A week ago, high idle worked at 6:25 a.m. after sitting in sub 20's all night(9 hours) but at 11:45 a.m. high idle did not activate after sitting in the same sub 20's...
You're not plugging it in are you??

I believe the 01's & I know the 02's don't have the high idle in their factory software.
It's like the block heater cable on the 03's.... You have to go back to Dodge, with wallet in hand, to get it.

finally had high idle kick in. 23* this morning and it was cold enough to finally make my truck idle up and warm up before going to work. im sure cleaning my IAT sensor helped it some too!
