With all due respect to Rod, neither Jack nor Ken have any idea where this is coming from regarding a KSB1 being rated higher hp than B1-2. Who knows what is said behind closed doors but they say nothing has been changed on either unit.
Sometimes the internet can provide too much info... certainly spreads questionable info quickly

With the stage 3 kit... You can easily machine the flange if you have access to a lathe (metal working lathe). I've done several and it only takes a few minutes. Your only opening the diameter of a counterbore by .125". Pretty easy, just have to get over the fear of doing something bad...

The flange that needs to be machined is on the compressor (intake) side of the turbo. It is behind the pinwheel which has a "reverse" taper to it. The new pinwheel is a larger diameter and thus needs the clearance counterbore in the mounting flange to be bigger in diameter. I didn't even pull the entire turbo off of the truck. I just removed the center section from the rear section via the 4 bolts that hold it all together. Pull the oil lines and it'll fall off in your hands. Remove the compressor housing via the giant snap ring the front section will come off. The pinwheel is bolted on by a left handed nut (may be 12 point). Take that nut off and remove the pinwheel. Leave the shaft and turbine on as is. Tape off the oil inlet/outlet holes and mount the center section in the lathe by the outside diameter. True the face with an indicator and then machine it. Put it back together on the bench. Install turbo and you'll probably have to adjust the elbow for max boost. I run mine to 44-46 psi...

I have a modified Sheid Diesel HX-35. It is on my truck right now and I can support BDIIIs and an EZ easily. Low end spool up is much increased. I have never tried to dyno, so I don't have numbers for that. I have been pleased with the turbo. My first intension was to use this turbo in their twin setup later, but I don't think that is the right thing for me anymore. I have now bought a KSB1-2 and decided to stay with one turbo with the same mods. Scheid is awesome to deal with though. I live in West Lafayette, IN and can go and talk with Kent on a daily basis-until they kick me out.

But down everywhere from 325RWHP, to 446RWHP on a completely stock HX-35/12.
Did lots of tuning, different combo's. Made less HP w/o an airfilter.
If my injection pump wasn't dying, I know I would have made more HP. I only got a few good readings over 2,400RPM because the truck would stutter, backfire, and miss.

on Scheid's Modifications to the HX-35. There is several
"options" available and Mike Wood can give you the exact
breakdown depending on what you want. He also has
other single turbochargers that work very well for daily
