high fuel pressure

I have a 392 walbro feul pump on my truck. It usually run about 20 to 23 psi of fuel pressure until I mash the pedal. Yesterday when I started my truck the fuel pressure was at 35 to 40 lbs of pressure. I changed fuel filter and it did not change. With the pedal mashed it still runs 30 lbs of pressure. Sould I be concerned about this. Any info would be helpful.

I wonder if it is the sending unit?

Theoretically it shouldn't hurt anything, but most overvalved guys would regulate it down anyway to be safe.

it could be the bypass valve sticking. it only takes a couple of minutes to rip it out of there, take it apart, and clean it.

De-burr the piston while you're in there.

Mine did the same thing once, went in, cleaned, de-burred, and its been working great ever since
