Lightbulb Hi Guys

Need your help with this one.

I have a 3500 24valve 2001 Dually and would like to start improving the power and breathing of the beast, what would you suggest, bearing in mind that Live in the UK and most parts will be bought over a period of time and fitted all at once when i've got them all.

I know this is a vague question and everyone has there own opinions of what you should do first, but i've got to start somewhere.

Thanks

Kurt

Hi Kurt!

Depending on your transmission I'd say that the first step should be gauges. Fuel pressure!! EGT!!! and either boost or transmission temperature to get a baseline and to find out whether you are running into problems. These gauges are beneficial on a stock truck.

Then I'd go for a box, but go big- like an Edge Comp. Don't attach the wire for the first impressions. As for air etc you can look at my signature. (By the way you could also add truck info to yours )
Depending on your transmission you will have to look into the tranny or at least a clutch really fast. When that's done the sky is the limit (well actually the wallet is more of a limit than the sky ), I'm using DonM's EDM Mach 3 injectors, bigger turbo, 4" exhaust, Scotty air2 etc.
People I take for a spin say that it's veery quick and use lots of expletives, but I feel that I need some more hp and torque

Just curious....What's the price of #2 Diesel over there?

Kurt, Why wait to add mods all at once? Not necessary and not as much fun. After gauges, which give you base line readings, you can evaluate power by seat of the pants and engine effect by the gauges as you add each item. For me this process was almost as much fun as arriving at my destination, which keeps moving anyway (towards more, more, more)!

Thanks Guys much appreciated and some good ideas. I dont realy know agreat deal about the engine or what its got in it as I havent recieved all of the documentation yet. But it is a 24valve 5.9 with 4 speed Auto + overdrive, she has done just under 50k miles and sings quite well as for other bits I dont have a clew, might take some photo's and post them to give you guys an idea.

As for the price of diesel, you guys have it so good! $7.50 a gallon ish. and rising at the moment.

Anyway thanks guys will let you know how i get on.

With fuel prices like that I would do these things.

EGT gauge. Put the probe in the manifold. Keep temps below 1200-1300.
Fuel pressure gauge. don't drive it if you have less than 10lbs. At any load/speed.
Edge E-Z or comp and not attach the wire at first.
275 injectors. Or if you can afford the EDM injectors.

You mileage and power will be up , maybe by 3-4 MPG and power bt 75!!

Attaching the pump wire might cause the pump to fail, and I doubt you can afford it.
Have fun!!

With fuel prices like that I would do these things.

1) Move to a country where fuel is more reasonably priced.

2) Move to a country where fuel is more reasonably priced.

Hi Kurt, Lord knows how you're going to get round some of those lanes where you are with a dually, going to stick to the motorways?

I'm originally from Huddersfield, where are you based?

John H, what are you doing in the states and how do I manage to get their? I live in Hull (the armpit of England) and yes the roads are quite narrow but for some strange reason people tend to move out of the way, it's like evryone has suddenly got manners or is it the site of a big black dually comin for them.

Buddy of mine had a dually over in Germany... That thing COMMANDED respect in a world of small VW's, and he learned which streets were verboten because of the width and the inevitable parked cars... a few side streets had both outers up on the curbs...
