HELP: Truck died and won't start?
Ok, I have been trying so hard to get my fuel pressure gauge hooked up with no success.
Today, I bought air brake hose to try, and seemed to seep a little bit. I am trying to hook the gauge up to the scrader valve. Used a fuel injection tester hose to do it, followed by a needle valve.
When I had it hooked up, it seemed low, 11 PSI at idle.
Then, all of sudden while it was idling it died.
Now you can crank it for a few seconds and nothing. Seems like no fuel. Could the VP or lift pump just die all of a sudden, with no warning? Always fired up very fast before.
Or could the big hose have drained the VP or something, or could I have gotten air in it or something? Haven't opened up the fuel filter housing to see if there is fuel, should I?
I give up on the fuel pressure gauge. Can not make it work! 1/8" tubing leaked. Don't know what to do.
Please Help. Thanks.

Turn the keyswitch just enough to "bump" the starter then release it. You should hear the lift pump come on and run for around 30 seconds. Do this 3 more times then try to start the motor.
Clunk edited: This should get any air pushed out of the system.

Tried that.
Still won't start. But I do hear the lift pump come on.
Did the VP die? Is that possible?
Should I pull my VanAaken off? Maybe its defective?

Now you need to crack a couple injector lines, at least 3.
Just loose enough for the air to get out, crank the engine no more than 20 seconds or so, once you see fuel coming out of the lines, tighten thighten back up.
Be very careful, as the fuel is pressurized to around 4000 psi, easily can cut into skin, and Diesel in the blood stream is very bad mojo.
Let the starter motor cool for a bit, then crank again, it should start and run really rough but eventually smooth out.
If it still doesn't, repeat the process on the remaining lines, if you don't ever see fuel out of 1 or more of them, then the VP is indeed toasted.
If this doesn't do the trick, then it might be something else, like the cam posistion sensor or the VP has bit the dust.

Fired right up.
Cranked on it a little longer and all of a sudden it fired up.
Not sure what the deal wasl.
Going to bring it to Dodge, and see if I can get a new lift pump. Pulled all my stuff off.
Is there a $100 deductable to get the lift pump changed?
