Help, runaway pump problem

Swapped a 215HP for my 180 HP pump (used pump). Tried to put the 5K GSK from the 180 into the 215. Cannot get the idle and governor to work right. When GSK tension okay too low of idle. When I set the idle up then the truck will free-rev from 800 going to 2000 without a load.

I tried what I thought was every combination of tension on the GSK and idle settings, no luck. Went tight, went loose. Removed the shims under the idle spring, still no change.

Put the 4K spring kit back in a some improvement but still not right.

Help! Is the pump bad? Had it to certified Bosch shop, went through it, control rack free (had been sticking). What to do next? I don't want to have to take the pump off unless I have to.

Any help appreciated.

Cant really help you out other than a little bump to the top for you.
IIRC Piers told me if you rev it in nutral and the engine revs away from the pedel travel your springs are to tight?

Thanks for bump. I found that post by Piers and that's when I tried to loosen them, then tighten. I'm really suspecting the pump is bad as I never had the problem with the old pump and had gone from 3K to 4K to 5K springs so felt I had some experience in putting them in.

I'll keep checking and start with some other phone calls.

i had that runaway problem too (but i forgot to put in the idle spring on one side of the pump) i felt so stupid! i had put in springs many times before!

i dont know, im having a hard time tuning gsk's too. finally got mine to work well!

I dont know but i have been thinking if adjusting the rack would help (its the top screw on the back of the pump, above the one where you adjust the governor arm hight! i have been playing with that screw on another pump, it modifies the idle rpm too, i really think if one would adjust it correctly it'd work
good luck!
