Help me pick a turbo please!!!!
Well ive been thinking about this for a lil while, but after i got some 191's in my truck today Im in dire need of some more air!!! So my question is, what turbo should i go with? I plan on sled pullin the truck quite a bit. Ive heard lots of good things about the SPS turbos. Im thinking maybe a SPS64/14 would be pretty sweet with my set up. Right now im running a 0 plate, 4KGSK, HD valve springs, PDR370s, 17* timing, and 191 DVs. I will more than likely pull my 370s out and go with the DDP3's, and whenever my HG goes it will be getting a set of studs, a copper or marine gasket, and some orings, and this winter im seriously considering a cam upgrade. So with that being said, what turbo do you all think is best for my setup? Of course I want it to spool pretty decent, but of course increased lagginess is expected. Help me out here guys! Its a really hard and important decision, but Id like to maybe place an order the beginning of next week.

Well I see the 64 as a compromise between the well mannered 62 and the top end only 66. As far as the sps line goes the 62 is rated at 525, the 64 at 575, and the 66 at 650. How much power is that 12ver going to be putting out?
12valve recently put a htb2 64 on one of his trucks- he might be able to give a an idea how that turbo would work on your 12v.

I'd drop those power figures about 75-100hp on a 12v...unless you want it to be a 3000-up RPM moster! Useable power on a 12v with a 62mm charger is gonna be 425-450 with EGT's above 1250*...unless you wanna run about 22+* of timing!

dont be scared of timing. mine runs great with 23* and gets 19mpg with 4.10's and full cut dv's. Also a 66mm charger is not as bad as people want to tell you. If I were you and this is only my opion, but id run a pro street 66 or one like im running pm for details, full cut dv's 22-24* timing, and mabey have dave loosen up the converter a little. then fire ring the head not oring and install a helix 2. (schied and hasley have bigger and badder but they run so much lift you have to fly cut and your commpression starts dropping fast). that should put you at around 550 and youll be much more copetitive and still have a decent driver that may be a little laggy but will also haul butt on the street for the same price as a milder setup.

I should have added a after I said he'll have to run a lot of timing. I meant that as a good thing. I figure the 98 will start at about 22, and go up from there. Probably end up about 24-26* when I'm done.

After thinking about it for a while, im leaning more towards maybe a SPS64/12. I was thinking about a ProStreet66 but I just think it would be too laggy for my liking. Im still not totally sure though. Its a really hard decision. Any other info? What about a KillerB2? Ive heard lots a good things about them as well.

If you're even mildly pondering adding more fuel, go with twins.

I wish I would have listened to what everyone else had said on this forum and bought twins when I had the money. I never thought I would be pulling heavy or leaving the 4's in, now I need more air.

I've been running twins for 4 years and have a daily driver set and a performance set. Turbos have gotten better since I got my first twins, so I am going to try running a single again. When i went from my Dodgezilla/14 to a DZ/14 over 3b combo I went from 370hp to 465hp at the exact same fueling level. My egt's went from 1400 down to about 1050. I am going to try running my SPS 62 on it's own. I hear they are good to 525hp but egt's will run in the 1600 range. I'd like to run more power with my twins but the boost levels are starting to worry me. I am hitting 65psi with Mach 1.2's and have a set of Mach 6's ready to go in. With a single I could run down in the 50psi range. That would ease the rectal pucker factor a bit. I think i could run a 64 at my fueling level with decent spool, but it remains to be seen what the egt's are like.

Good luck...but I'll bet you end up with the twins back on Ron.
Also, haven't found anyone whose tried those injectors you were asking about

Guys, i know twins would be the way to go if i wanna make power, but i plan to pull this truck a lot so that would put me waaaaay outta my league. Im needing somethin thats 2.4 inducer or smaller.

Im keeping an eye on this thread since Im also considering a SPS62.. but after hearing the EGTs at the top end Im now thinking about that 64. Ive been told the 12v needs a lot more fuel than the 24 to make good power, so I will need a lot more turbo but I dont want to sacrifice low end power and response like I would with a 66. Anyone with a SPS64 on a 12v want to chime in?
OR I could do the sure thing and save up for those BD twins which look mighty tasty.

Satburn had a recent thread about 2.8 inducer bore turbos and he settled on the ps64 for his sledpullin 97. Shoot him a pm or revive the thread.
