Help me find that screw I dropped... plate install adventures...
Hey, so I finally bit the bullet today and decided to grind my plate down. Couldn't find the dremel tool so I had to do it all with a bench grinder, its not a perfect #10 by any means, but its pretty close. Anyway, when I was removing the bolts that run through the fuel shutoff solenoid bracket one of them fell... and I can't find it. I heard a "thump" that sounded like the ground, but I have been all over that with a magnet to try to pick it up and haven't had any luck. And of course when I try to run the magnet through the engine compartment area to see if its resting down on the a-arm anywhere it sticks to EVERYTHING...
Anyway its dark out now and I want to get this done, this being my first time its taken me a good part of the day, mostly a lot of running back and fourth from my truck to my computer.
So does anyone have ANY idea where this bolt might be? Again, its the one that runs through both the fuel shutoff solenoid bracket and and AFC housing, and I'm just not sure where it might have fallen.
Thanks for any ideas on places to check, all I want to do now is get everything back together, adjust the starwheel and try it out!
And... if I can't find the bolt... what do I need to replace it with?
Thanks!
Dennis

how bout jackin the front tires off the ground, mite have rolled tll it hit the tire and is currently invisible... one tire at a time, I would bet its on the drivers side, but check em till ya find it, could have bounced far enough to lodge under a rear tire as well.

Well, I ended up chaining the truck up to the tractor and pulling it back about 10 feet. Its definitely NOT there... so its laying somewhere on the front end of the truck. Any more ideas? I'm about to "lose it".

Yep, I've had plenty of pieces of hardware land on the a-arms. Did you drop it on reassembly? If you already had the AFC housing on, and there is no chance it went into the engine/pump, I'd just run it as is, and get a new bolt when you get a chance. 6mm IIRC.

I just crawl underneath the truck and look up where the bolt was last and start feeling around in places that it could have fell. And places that you think its not. Sometimes it hits a place that has grease/oil on it and sticks that makes it sound like the ground.

And.... it was on the ground. My dad was over here for a while and I was showing him what I was doing to the truck and he saw it on the ground in about 20 seconds... I guess all it takes is just another pair of eyes sometimes .

Good Job, Dennis!!
I've done that a time or two...
I've got to where I lay a green gov't issue wool blanket or a white sheet under the truck where I am working, so when I drop stuff, it's easier to find...

Nothing worse than dropping a bolt when the driveway is covered in snow.
