Help!!! Isspro EGT Gauge acting funky

Just recently I noticed my EGT's were really high on the highway. 100KM EGT was reading anywhere from 800-1000 D
Funny thing is I am running empty on flat Hwy. I've had these gauges since the summer and have had no problems. By the way the outside temp. is approx. -18 C. also with cruise on at 100km. the gauge fluctuates and never really settles down. I'm thinking it may be the box that the thermal couple connects to. Anyone else have this problem.

Are you sure there isnt another problem? Many like you lost a cooler boot? What does the guage do at idle or better yet what does it read when the truck is not running?

Re:Help!!! Isspro EGT Gauge acting funky

Just to give you the skinny on this problem, This morning on the way to work it did it again. Here's my readings:Engine off gauge reads 0. Idling engine warmed up 250-300. Driving at 100km empty Fuel Pressure 12, Turbo 5psi , RPM 1800 , EGT 750 for approx. 10 minutes then waivered from 750-1100. Settled in at 950 but still once and awhile would drop to 650-700 then come back up. Oil pressure steady at 60psi. Road conditions flat as a pancake. Outside Temperature - 16C. I'll check all cooler boots this A.M.. Any other Help would be greatly appreciated.

Re:Help!!! Isspro EGT Gauge acting funky

I have a similar problem with readings but I know it is the connection to the gauge itself. If you can get to the back of the gauge put your finger on the Pyrometer lead and move it a little and watch your gauge, I know mine jumps all over the scale and then will settle down to the correct reading. I re-crimped it once and it worked ok for awhile but time to do it again when I get time

If I was you I'd call Isspro and tell them about your problem.

Mine did the same thing last summer. It was caused from moisture. After things dried up under the hood, the guage stopped fluctuating. I don't know if that could be your problem though, based on the outside temp. I agree with Katoom, I'd call Isspro.

I had a very similiar problem with mine. It turned out I had electricl connectors on a intermediate cable that cracked. Sometimes they would work great, sometimes high and sometimes not at all. Replaces the intermediate cable and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for all your replies . Yeah this has been very frustrating. The moisture comment is possible as it did warm up aweek or so ago and got very messy, and when i wash big blue I always give him a wash in the boiler room. But the question that arises is where is the moisture going to go ??? It's just wires under the hood my box for the gauge is in the cab. I did call PDR on tuesday regarding this problem and the tech guy told me check the ground on the gauge. I 've done all that and I really agree with the others that I have a Gauge problem. When I first bought my set of gauges (All ISSpro) I had problems with my fuel pressure gauge and had to replace it under warranty, the guys at PDR were really good about it. I'm hoping that they will do the same on the EGT. I just installed them in July!!!! I'm kinda wishing that I would have bought Autometer instead. My oil pressure gauge is autometer. but at the time they only had these available as the fuel pressure gauge from Autometer was under going changes. Anyway hopre you all have a Great Xmas and I look forward to further discussions .
