heatshield opinions....
i have just made my heatshield for my BHAF out of 16 gauge sheetmetal. i was thinking of painting it black or white. what do you think. i am thinking white might help reflect heat while the black may make the metal hotter. plus my truck is white so the white with some red rubber trim around it might look good. maybe even a silver color like the motor cover with the red trim? open to suggstions.....

yeah my original thought was to do flat black. then i started thinking about weather or not it would create hotter air for the BHAF? thats when i thought about white to help reflect heat. i am torn, not really sure which way to go and want to get it done tomorrow.

I made mine out of an old computer case, then I covered the part between the BHAF and the turbo with the aluminum tape that HVAC guys use on ducts. That should reflect the heat pretty good.

it might be too late but grey or silver or like you said white with red trim would look good. im like more flashy colors like grey or silver with a little metalic.

The white or black will not affect the heat unless you leave your hood open and are getting direct sunlight.
I would believe white will have a short lifespan in the engine compartment. Besides, everything goes with black....

i may end up changing it as it just looks plain....but i put 1200 degree high temp flat black on it and put some of the black wire loom around the edges. looks ok but doesnt really stand out. i mean i guess who really cares since its under the hood and nobody will probably ever see it. may end up going silever or white and put red wire loom on it. if i get enough of you saying white then i may do it. if i stay with black i will probably get a black outerwears for it if i go white with red wire loom i will probaqbly et a red outerwears. i need to make this a poll maybe....hmmm

I am very sorry but I don't know what BHAF is! but they do make wrap for exhaust pipe or other things. Performance shops have it.

Big Honkin Air Filter........ i am not really sure that exhaust wrap would hold up to 1200+ degrees, anyways the heatshield jsut blocks some of the heat from the engine from the air filter. i was just curious about weather or not black would make it hotter or not.

Exhaust wrap will hold up past 1200 degrees. Not that you're going to see temps nearly that high in the engine bay. If you do, there is something on fire.
