With that kind of timing and a little extra air im not surprised it popped. Yikes!
Id do the head gasket, studs and o-rings. Maybe even consider getting a new loaded head with it already done, like from pure diesel power. Pretty cheap.
Have a machinist check for flatness and finish. Youll want as smooth a surface as you can get and it should be perfectly flat.
If you go to another turbo like a ps62 or 64 you can lower the timing and still get decent temps on the top end with those mods.
My headgasket is probably going to pop.. if I find a decent pump to install Ill have it timed to 16.5.

maybe a phat shaft 62/12 or something smaller that spools quick. Add a bit more fuel with something like large DV's and injectors you could try one a little larger.
I think at 4k on the governor 60lb valve springs are a good idea too, so you dont float a valve. Pretty sure its 4k and up.
Is this on an auto or a manual? Have you built the transmission / clutch to handle the extra power? Running gauges? a stock truck can kill a stock auto easy.. even the 160hp version.
