Headgasket Swap...?
Hey everyone, my original plan for changing the HG was to wait until I got a brand new head that was ported out, polished, well the WORKS. Well my gasket is starting to leak horridly, so I would like to just replace it until I have the dough to go through with my plan. I already have a Marine .020 over gasket here at home, how long can I expect it to take to swap the HG and install my PDR cam finally? There would be 2-3 guys working on it the entire time. Also does anyone know off-hand where I could get the head decked somewhere close to the Magnolia/Tomball area? Also I am going to have to retime my truck after pulling out the cam huh? Thanks everyone!

Its hard to say how much time it will take. I would allow for a good 12-14 hours of labor to do everything especially if it is your first time. It could be done in a lot less time, but this is just going along at a leisurly pace. Depending on what type of cam u have, u might not have to retime your truck. If it is a keyed cam that uses the stock cam gear, then u should be able to just mark the cam gear and the pump gear before u pull the cam out, and be sure to line them back up when u put the cam back in.

start to finish on a HG with all the proper tools available and not running to the toolbox and back 900 times should be about 3-4 hours. unless you are really fast. the first time i ever pulled the head on a cummins (no previous knowledge) took me a little over 2 hours to get it off.
cam is a bit longer tho, haven't done one yet tho.
