So basically if you run the 20w50 without the additive package I would change it on a real regular basis IE every 2000 miles or so.

Last year I was changing my 15w40 oil every 1500 miles or so during pulling season.

This year I am going to try some 20w50 during pulling season since my motor is starting to loosen up a bit!
So on a non street driven truck, every 3rd or 4th pull?

Garrett,
Really you just have to judge for yourself on the oil thing.
Since the common rails soot the fuel up fast I wait for the oil to start having a burnt smell to it before I change it during sledpulling season.

Theres a guy in flagstaff az rebuilding cummins for 2k. head and long block I believe. I would pull it, and R&R the bearings, go the next size over, rings, blah blah.

A CR soots the oil worse than a 12v?? I would think that's backwards!

Redline is overkill for most guys, but if you are pushing the limits and abusing your truck, that extra high flashpoint may prevent the scoring seen above....
IMO either flash point is excellent... and more than enough for the Cummins. Even under the most extreme uses I have never seen oil temps over 240-250*F. A lower flash point would affect the oxidation rate of a oil, and therefore how often it needs changing, but should not be a major concern for those pulling or racing.

I would tend to put more emphasis on % by wt. of Zinc in the additives. Most national brands add very little Zinc. It is essential, IMO for high performance applications.

However, Higher Flash Points do tend to indicate a better quality oil....with better base oils and better additive packages, which do make a big difference in protection of moving parts.

Yes, Rowland MPZ contains high levels of zinc.

I just went and tasted a tube of cam lube

What would you guys call adequate for a oil flash point, I just looked up my 0-40 esso/exxon oil and its "224 C." Seems low compared to to redline 486 and the rp 435.

We were talking degrees F.
224*C is 430 *F. (+/- 5 degrees) .
As long as operating oil temps are NOT within 100*F of Flash Point.... I would be satisfied.... so say 350* Flash or above.... as long as it meets CI-4 diesel rating.
