he351 on a 12-valve?

I know the newer common rail turbos have been used on a 24v (bigblue), but what about a 12v? My dad and I are going to put one on his 95 for the heck of it since its cheap. I know bigblue didn't re-clock his housing, but what would be the hardest part of doing that. I know the wastegate would have to be modified, but is there anything else to it? Also what kind of power do you guys think could be made?

Thanks,
Quinton

You will have zero issues reclocking the housing, just the wastegate to deal with. Most recently I have seen lots of guys using a spring to hold the wastegate shut and letting exhaust drive pressure overcome the spring when it needs to to control peak boost.

Most HP I have seen with the HE351cw is 550 range on a third gen, 499.2 on my second gen. Who knows, 500+ on a severely over fueled 12 valve???

How overfueled do you think we're talking? Lasercuts and 370s? This 95 is just a play toy for us. Picked up cheap. Probably see what we can get to work on it and then do it to my 96. So i might be in the market for another one of these turbos before too long. I was also curious about the vgt's. I see the major problem with those being the electrical. Any ideas?

you'll run hot with a he351. exhaust housing is restrictive for the fueling of the 12v. i noticed minimal difference with the swap and temps are still an issue at wot. 12v like a free flowing exhaust housing for keeping back pressure down imo.

I'm running an he351 on my first gen 12v. Lowered max temps 100deg from my h1c with 16cm housing.

It's too bad nobody makes a larger aftermarket exhaust housing for these turbos.

How much boost are you pushing on your 12 valve when your seeing similar high temps and no power difference?

On my stock HX35, there wasn't much of a power difference between 32 psi boost and 40 psi. The HE351cw on the other hand has at least 50 more hp at 40psi than it does at 32. In fact, it seems to continually make more and more hp on my truck till about 48 psi. That's where my boost is set to peak out because that is where hp gain seems/feels to level off.

sdubfid, did you notice any change in power? I'm just trying to figure out if it would be worth it for a cheap upgrade. I can peg the pyro in 4th and 5th on long runs and need to drop that a little bit.
