Having fun now!

Just got my truck back from getting a transmission update, Triple Disk, VB, and Commander Controller. Now I can feel the power from the Edge!
However, Now I have a question. I rolled on it pretty hard and then backed out of it. When I did I heard a whispy air noise coming from under the hood over by the passenger side. Any Idea what that might be? I don't remember hearing it before. I thought it might be a couple of things. I'm guessing the Trans guy had to take the air box off to do the wiring for the controller, but I didn't see anything that looks like a leak. I don't have a turnbuckle on the turbo yet; could this noise be coming from the wastegate? Again, I only hear it when I back off the throttle.

Sounds like your wastegate letting off the excess boost. That will happen if you rapidly get off the throttle after being on it hard like you describe.

I purchased an intermediate upgrade kit from Suncoast, ATS Triple Disk, ATS Valve Body, and ATS Controller. My Transmission guy has used ATS Torque converter in the past and really liked them so that is why I went with that product.
He said that everything looked great in the transmission and by adding the new parts he feels that with proper maintenance the trans should be bullet proof. Oh, I also installed the new ATS Double Deep Pan.

As far as the wastegate, once I install a turnbuckle what will happen to the noise/ pressure?

boost will go up from 18-20lbs to almost 30 psi your truck has a hy35 turbo with a 9cm housing which spools quickly but doesnt supply high volume of air so for future reference if u add anymore fuel you will need to upgrade your turbo. Yes the wastegate blowing off excess pressure will get louder with wastegate turnbuckle, for more pressure will be released

If I want to go up with injectors ie: 1.5's what do you recommend for a turbo? I might want to stack a TST to it too.

You are probably hearing the turbo BARK, which is when the engine can't ingest the air the turbo is feeding, and it backs up through the turbo. This can be harmful, and could possibly break turbo shafts. The HY and HX turbo's ARE pretty tuff for stockers, mine has barked numerous times without breaking, yet .

Let me try to clarify a bit. If you've ever heard a Pro or Super Stock pulling tractor get out of the throttle at the end of a run, That "Psssh, Psssh, Psssh" is turbo bark. That is what mine does when I back off the throttle too fast. BUT, it's not the wastegate!

What??

If you let off the throttle, you're wastegate is no longer used. I also can't hear my wastegate "letting off pressure." I can hear my turbo BARK when I dump the throttle too fast, or as some people say when the auto tranny shifts.

But wastegates are almost un-noticeable. They dump exhaust gas around the turbine wheel to keep from spinning it too fast. A turnbuckle will hold it closed allowing it to turn faster and build more boost. This will make the BARKING louder, but not the wastegate.

Hope this helps clear things up a bit,
Chris

Exactly what Sig600 said. Turbo bark. Not WG blow off. The WG bleeds off internally anyways so its hard to hear. Especially over 4" exhaust.
