Has anyone tried one of these turbos?
My turbo is making some odd "tired" sounds...
So I was look around and found these turbos...
I'm seriously looking at trying one of these Spiny Things for under $280 "new"....
Or maybe even one of these Shiny Spiny Things for under $345 "new"...
Both are 16cm housing and 1 year warranty if installed by ASE mechanic...
I know they're not the best of the best, but for under $300.... I might seriously give these a try.
Thoughts?

I don't know buddy..I would be cautious on those ones...Holset was having a problem of their name being stolen by other countries to flood the market with cheap poor quaily turbos and using their name..These could be the poor quailty chinese knockoffs..

If you're not looking for more air, I'd trust rebuilding the one you have now for about the same price over one of those "new" turbos. They also note they are T4 flange, I think stock is T3? so an adapter would be needed.
I've found you get what you pay for, I'd probably even rather buy a used turbo for about the same price.

I would get one with the compressor with 60mm inducer and is a six blade wheel. Those aren't worth the money, must be china knock-offs.
Probably fail very quickly, so buy a few of them.

Those are extreme situations, I doubt that would ever occur on a near stock truck. Tons of issues with S300 turbos, from turbine housings cracking, thrust bearing failures, to shaft failures.
I had a few china turbos over the years, some work ok, some right out of the box don't work.
I would search for a HE351 off a newer truck, they are cheap cheap turbo and a decent upgrade. The 16cm housing is huge, I ran a HX40/12cm housing with lots of fuel, and it was laggy beast.

Typically the HE351 has a 59 or 60mm inducer and a smaller turbine housing than the HX-40. The 56mm inducer is smaller than the typical HX-35 which has a 57mm inducer. The HE341 has a 57mm inducer and a small turbine housing size similar to the HY35.
Dave, I would just put a S475 under that HX-35 and crank up the fueling
