has anybody ever not killed the vp right after a comp install and pump tap. i just installed the comp today but didnt tap the wire yet.
what was the life of your pump after you tapped it. ive got a fass system and to my knowledge still the orginal vp, not positive for that.

Generaly if you tap the wire and the wire tap kills it, it will happen within about 15-30 mins. If it lives past that you are good to go and it dies when it wants to die. Tapped wires are a must for good fuel pressure and flow. Its just do you have the extra cash to take the gamble of tapping the wire. If you do or can get the cash Tap the wire!

Just tap the wire! If your pump is weak it will fail after a couple full power runs, better now than at a bad time on a trip away from home. If it holds you should be able to trust it for awhile.
Out of ten older trucks with 100k or so only 1 failed of coarse 1 of mine.

I know several guys who tapped the wire without incident.... they all have FASS system's now though as well. Me on the other hand, killed a VP-44 without a wire tap so take that for what it's worth....

You only hear about the VP44 failures . Believe me, thousands of
fueling boxes have been sold from different manufacturers. If there
were massive amounts of VP44's failing, the manufacturers of these
boxes would have gone out of business years ago

I've tapped my VP @ 40 k miles and now im over 200 k miles.
All I can say is that it's a lottery where you only hear about the "winners" and not about all the others where the result was nothing to talk about...
