hard to start and white smoke
I am working on a 2000 5.9 for a friend of mine the truck is very hard to start and once it is running the truck white smokes. when u give it fuel it will only rev up to 2500 or so and white smokes (raw fuel) the only code is one for batt temp to hi. Help thanks

You should be able to crack the injector lines one at a time at the injector and listen to see if there is a change in the way the engine runs. If the injector is good the engine should start to run rougher when the line is cracked. Then you do it back up and it goes back to running better. If you find one that doesnt change at all when you crack it, that is a pretty good sign the injector has a problem in that hole.
It might also be the grid heater? When it warms up does it run any better?

Usually white smoke is because of poor compression or retarded timing. How does the blowby look? Has there been excessive oil consumption? How does the engine sound? Does the engine come up to operating temperature as far as coolant temp? Do you have good transfer pump pressure?
