Haulin, thanks for the follow-up -- i figured you would know. I do enough off-roading to be concerned about having the port protected -- time to get the creative juices going and design/build a skid plate...

Of course there is a sump that is designed for gravity feed systems if you so desire. It is all CNC-ed, and was created for this purpose, and I have one on my truck.

Ow! At that price, is that thing aluminum plated gold?

It's actually a very good idea. How much does the sump hold? Does the lip inside the tank cause any starvation when launching at the track with little fuel in the tank?

Wow, that has my vote, great mod. I once built a sump near the size for a big truck, best setup I ever had. When you mount it do not cut a big hole, just drill a series of 5/16 or so holes to keep steady flow. Thats a great piece.

I too think it's a tad over priced, but it's not up to me to set prices at that place, I was simply showing something about a gravity feed system.

The lip inside is only about half an inch at the most. I have only run out of fuel once with it, and I was giving a demo and was around 500 or so hp, and could WATCH my fuel gauge drop because it took so much fuel. This thing will get the fuel flowing, so I don't let myself go below a 1/4 of a tank.

As for how much it holds, I can't remember, I measured it once, but can't remember as that was about 1 1/2 years ago.

Update!! The hard start appears to be history! Tonight we dropped the tank and R&R the whole pick/float assembly. First off, I had a lot of rubbery, spongy, black sludge in the bottom of the stock lift assembly where the engine fuel line returns. Second, upon disassembly of the pickup, I figured out there's a lot of restriction in the check valve and stock screen. They were promptly removed. There is an extra hose fitting that's plumbed to the bottom of the tank, but it's got an ID of less than 1/16". I'm not sure that the FASS wouldn't overpower it. Since I purchased a bulkhead fitting from Jegs earlier this week, I added a return fitting to the top of the assembly for the return FASS fuel line and restored the vent filler tube line to factory condition.

The results?? 5psi starting, 17psi idle, 15.5 WOT, 16 cruise.

The best part?? I can fuel up without shutting the truck off!! Plus, the truck starts like it did before the FASS & definately picked up some 70-100mph power with the box off. I gotta thank Brad @ DPP for bearing with me as I sorted through all of this! He's got a great product and excellent service.

I figured I owed everyone a 3 month update. The hard warm starting still existed (though not to the same extent as before the modifed pickup) after I made the previous post in the thread.

However, I finally whipped the hard start problem!!! Truck starts on the first revolution, everytime! The solution? LarryB's upgraded starter contacts. It turns out that one of the starter contacts was worn paper-thin and failed to transfer enough amperage to turn the engine over all the time. $30+ later, my truck starts everytime I want it to. Hopefully this helps someone.
