just got my truck put back together this weekend. i have been nice to it because i havent retorqed the head yet. i added the ddp3's(had 300s), marine 20 over gasket, htt 62/13/71ss , 4k gsk, and advanced the timing to 17.5, oh and put in 131 lazer cut dv before that made it hard to start. now it is a bugger to start and smokes pretty good at a cold idle. are those just symptoms of timing and a marine gasket. i got the dvs from purediesel power and think the plungers sail 035 on them. other than that i cant wait to get on it. it is a totally differnt rig. and love the way the 4kgsk fuels

It is from the gasket and bumped timing. Ether is your friend.

 

No need for ether with that timing and tuff, just apply some pressure to the pedal when you start cranking it and hold the RPM's to 1k for a few seconds after it fires. BTW 131 is just what DV's they WERE, now they are just good 'ole laser cuts, a 131 is what is was machined out of. It sounds like you have a pretty dang good setup if you ask me! Did you do any porting on the head while it was off?

 

nope didnt port the head. at the moment i was just happy to get it back togeather. i was down for bout two months.
