Hack saws and cats
I just wanted to know if it was a stupid idea to just cut off my old exhaust before it hits a cat or muffler, just to try and figure out if a straight pipe will be too loud.
I know that this is going to be louder than a straight pipe and will probably drone inside the cab, but my main concern is whether or not my cab is going to fill up with fumes...I don't know how everyone at the office will feel if the redneck starts to smell more like a redneck.
Lastly, does anyone know how strict people are about exhaust in the Hudson Valley, NY? I've got a feeling that if I did get pulled over I might get a hefty fine, or be praying that those Oklahoma plates somehow get me off the hook...

i had an 87 2 wheel drive with a 318 with a cam and a fourbarrel and headers. i drove it around for a couple of days with open headers. it sounded awesome i couldnt hear the radio even if i turned it all the way up. anyways my cab didnt really get full of exhaust and i didnt get pulled over all though i drove past a parking lot that had about 6 cop cars in it and they were talking they didnt do anything but i think one of them followed me home but didnt see wich driveway i went in maybe. any ways if you have your exhaust cut off just watch for cops and dont step on it hard when you see them

If you look at most states' exhaust laws, a turbo counts as a muffler and thus a straight pipe is legal. However, i hear that epa regs... federal law prohibits any modifying of emission related parts to the exhaust system. If your truck has an actual cat, technically it is illegal to remove... but hey, you bought your truck used and the previous owner modified right. wink wink.
