It has been done with a router, and a flush trim bit. That is the way I would go, if I did it myself. Just use a bit you don't care about, it will most likely be trashed when you are done. And go slow. They should balance fine. Others have used a Dremel to grind for enough clearence.

ramdriver brings up a good point. If you don't get the centers machined very closely, they'll hop on the balancer and you won't get a true balance. The way to get around this one would be to go to a tire shop that has an adapter plate that uses little "fingers" that go into the lug holes. I think most should have something like that, but it never hurts to be sure. Just something to be aware of.

The caveman way I did mine (worked perfect).
Get a 4-1/2" electric hand-held grinder.
Buy a solid disc ALUMINUM (red color) 4-1/2 grinding wheel.
Laythe wheel on the ground face up.
Use the grinder on the center by inserting the grinder into the center hole vertically. Rotate grinder 360* around center bore. Just get rid of the center 'lip" on the hummer wheel. You will see what i mean.
Flip the wheel over, do some on the backside of the center hole.
Test fit on hub. Use a FRONT wheel hub as your sizing jig, not a rear.
If it doesn't fit, keep slightly grinding.
Once it fits, use a "finish" (serrated flapper type) grinding wheel to smooth the prior grinding down, make it pretty.
Believe me, you cant get it so out of whack the tire shop machine will care.
All 4 wheels took me about 35 min., doing a nice job.
You are trying to make a 4.777 size bore. A 4.5" grinder wheel is pretty darn close.

why not just put the tires on before grinding the centers out..... then you could balance them with the stock wheel center.... cut the centers out after..... this would work well for the first set of tires...

any more ideas will be appreciated, i like the grinder one , but would a wholesaw work?
what aboutthe size change it is 4.5 enlaged to a 4.75 diameter hole

well i got the wheels on the truck but the centercaps didnt want to fit, and i cant double up the lugs. Any good ideas on how to solve the centercap issue... im gonna be getting so new ones hopefully 2nd gen again. I tried to mod my old ones but the didnt want to stay on very well.

I have a short description of how I fit my 2nd gen center caps on my H2 wheels over on the TDR under my readers rigs, (Brad's Pics) but don't know how to send the link. If you have experience using a table saw it would be very easy.........just be careful! I trimmed the lug nut clips as shown in an earlier post. They fit perfect, nice and tight.... bp
