If you can, keep the housing/volutes divided, that will help spool, then the stock gate will vent @ say 20psi and the E-gate can open @ like 40psi or whenever drive pressure starts to spike.
i need an external gate anyway, as both turbos are non gated. so, you're sayin i can go with the 12cm housing with an e-gate and spool quick but with no effect on my top end capabilities compared to the 16cm housing. if so, the 12cm is the way to go for sure. also what pressure are you setting the gate at on the small turbo? i've been redading 25-30psi. is this right. sorry about all the questions, this twin stuff is pretty new to me. thanks

yeah, 25-30 is a good starting point. be sure to run a large gate 40mm+ with a non-gated 12 housing. or a trick set-up would be 2 smaller gates, one for each volute! then you could set them progressively.

Where would you put the 40mm at? At the turbine inlet of the secondary?

I don't know how your only dump one side of volute with an external, unless you build a special one off part.

I like your idea, you could be onto something as you can feel a smaller size turbine housing choke-up/plug and seem to hinder top end power.

the dual e-gate is done by using a divided spacer with a divided housing and putting one gate on each side. I run twins with 12cm housing on top and a S475 on the bottom. they do lite FAST and with a good port job on the gate(s) top end is still excellent with DP near 1:1.

Do you ever get stuff that wiggles loose? I had one set-up thats all it did was just blow out gaskets on the turbine housing. I had to continously tighten up the bolts on the exhaust. I just want to limit the amount of leaks and opening. Have to try a larger external just to see if you can lite the S475 more?
