guage wire routing

guage wire routing
After running the boost tube and SS braided line into the cab throuth the clutch grommit, how do you feed the lines up through the dash to the A-pillar. And will the lines fit between the autometer guage pod and A-pillar trim without bulging or is it better to remove the A-pillar trim and just put in the guage pod?

I got my pod for Diesil Power Products but I bet they are very similar. I removed my A pillar cover completely. I made a small bracket out of sheet metal. If I remember correctly It was about 3/4 inch tall and I used self drilling screws to mount it to the A pillar of the cab frame. Measure carefully and you can hit the bracket for your plastic fastener. You can also cut down a drill bit and insert it thru the braket hole. That way it pokes out of the bracket and you can lightly scratch a mark in the back side of the pod. Take out your head light switch and you can route up from the fire wall easily. I recomend using split loom to route all connections. I have been asked to post pics and diagrams so I am getting them together. Hopefully they will be done and posted by the end of the week.

First I removed the big black trim from the dash, to allow more room to work. Then I used a stiff piece of wire to feed down between the dash and the body, at the same angle as the A-pillar, to get below the dash completely. For I used the stiff wire to help pull my gauge wires up. My wires go from the grommet to the side, then up past the dash. I removed the original A-pillar cover completely, and used a single screw 6" from the top to hold the tri pillar in place. That screw is hidden by the 4th gauge pillar, being held on by 3 trim screws. All screws and pillars are painted to match the truck's interior.

It takes a little wrestling but they fit. I have quite a few wires and hose in mine and I didnt need to drill any holes. Just do as said before, take off the dash face plate and the a-pillar cover and use a flash light. A coat hanger might be helpfull in retreiving them new wires, too. If you stand on the door jam (be careful not to slip and fall) and look in from the windsheild you can see right down the side of the dash.

I've just fitted a three gauge A pillar pod with an oil pressure gauge, pryometer, and boost gauges, i managed to keep the original A pillar cover in place, only removing it to cut a slit about an inch wide by about 5 inches long to accomodate the growing collection of wires at the lower end then clipped it back into place and secured the pod to the existing cover using the fixings supplied. It's a tight fit but it works fine.
I started the other way round and attached all the wires and pipes to the gauges then fed them throught the dash and out into the engine bay.
