Guage lighting question
I have my guage lights hooked up to come on when I turn the ignition on. I don't want them to be on during the daytime. How do I get them to come on when I turn the driving/headlights on?

I tapped into the wires going to the ashtray light. This way, the gauge lights will be fused and they will also dim or brighten using the control for the rest of your dash lights. Plus, it's real easy to get to. ;D

RATTLINRAM. If I hook them up to the ashtray, when will the guage lights come on? I just don't want them on during the daylight hours. How did you splice them into the ashtray wires? Which wires do I splice into? Thanks.

If you look under the dash by the ashtray, you will see the wire that leads up to the light in the ashtray. The wire is actually two wires, one side being positive and the other side is common ground which is needed because of the plastic dash components. I just cut the wires, twisted them together and then taped over the connections. I didn't see the need to solder them because they are up and out of the way and well protected from being snagged.

Re:Guage lighting question
So if I tap the positive of the the guage lights to the positive of the ashtray light, I am ok? I already have the guage negative wire grounded. Which one of the ashtray wires is positive?

Re:Guage lighting question
You can also jump on the upstream side of the fuse that supplys power to the instrument cluster lights in the fuse panel on the side of the dash. Radio Shack or similar electrical supply will sell you a small clip that fits around the fuse to tap the power that will allow for a spade connector to hook to it. Makes for a clean install. Just be sure to fuse the power lead going to your gauges
