GSK Retaining nut tool???

Alright guys,

So I am pulling the 4k GSK out of my 98' so I can put it in my 95', along with all the other goodies in the 98'. I am trying to get the retaining nuts off of the studs, but its taking an insane amount of force with a screwdriver at an angle to loosen them up, I mean, I'm 6'1 220 and played football not too long ago and I can't get these things off, I got 4 clicks off of one side, and none on the other... Is there a cummins tool to take these things off?

I don't want to weld a washer onto a perfectly good screwdriver and have it still not work... I know these are really heavy springs, so the retaining nuts have a lot of pressure on them, but I still need to get this truck back to stock. Any help is appreciated, or any tips would help as well. I am going thru the side incase anyone was wondering.

Thanks fellas,
-Matt

I took a wide flat screw driver, and ground a notch in the center, to clear the stud. It worked ok.....not great, but ok.

I made my own tool from a S10 transmission brace, but any 5/8" rod will work. I ground the last 1/2" to form a 1/16" wedge and then ground a 1/8" groove like 1320 ground in his screwdriver. It worked perfect on 5 different pumps now... I'm not at the shop so I don't have a picture.

needle nose pliars worked pretty well for me....

i've heard of quite a few people having issues getting theirs off... not really sure what the big deal is... mine came of really easy.

push in slightly when your unscrewing them, makes it easier.

Grind a cheap socket of about the right diameter. Leave two nubbins to fit into the nut. If one of them is tight there is something wrong.

Need 95;
I used a 1" wood borring bit, I ground the center wide enough to clear the stud and narrowed the outside to fit the groves. I has a shaft on it 6" long with hex head for socket, of which I used, it fit tight and wont come off, and then used an 1/4" extension, and handle to use for removale. There is a possablity of benting the stud with a screw driver because of uneven force.
