gsk question

I am trying to help a friend do some things to his 97. I was going to do the free gsk mod but I am a little unsure of how it all works. From what I read so far there is a 7/8 nut on the side of the pump to remove then there is the gov assembly in there. I had the afc off today and I looked down in to the gov assy but I could not figure out how to get the top off of the spring to get the washer in there. Was I looking at the wrong thing maybe? It looked like the top of a valve spring while it is still installed on the valve. I could not see any way to remove it.

Go through the side. Going through the top is great for adjustments, not so great for changing parts. There is a plug under the shut off lever that has the 7/8" hex on it. Take the solenoid and shut off lever (don't loose the woodruff key), and you'll see the plug you need to remove.

The retaining nut comes off with a pair of needle nose pliers in the grooves, remove the retainer, and the washer goes on top of the inner springs. Then set the retainer back on, and set the nut to the same depth as originally found.

Its on the top. Once you pull the lever off, you'll see it. Sometimes its hard to get out, and that will likely not cause you an issue. If its loose, then remove it so you don't lose it, especially inside the pump!
