Smile GSK 3 need some advise please.

Happy Thanks Giving Everyone,
I have a 97 auto with a Banks Stinger Plus I guess about 247 RW hp, do any of you have a GSK 3 and tow with this set up and what are the results? I tow 10,000 lbs. TH and I was thinking of installing a GSK 3 or getting a #10 plate and the GSK 3 but would the egt be to high for towing? and sometimes in the Eastern Sierras about 7 % grade. Does the HP and Torque range increase or does just fuel longer and everything else stays the same?
Thanks.

the gsk will do nothing but help you. im doin a 4k tommorow and i hear nothing but good things about them. you should have no egt problems by doing a 3k and 10 plate. when you do the plate make sure you get a boost elbow and turn it up to 30-35 psi. make sure you have gauges to monitor everything and if your tranny is stock you will toast it in no time. do a tripple disc converter, valve body and turn up the line pressure if your tranny is stock. then youll be ready to haul ***.

it just fuels longer, stock you cut fuel around 2250 in some trucks and with a 3k you get full fuel to 3200rpm, and a 4k fuels all the way out to 4000rpm but you need to 60lb exhaust valve springs if you want to go out to 4k
i have nothing but good about the 3kgsk and 4k i personally just bought a 4k with the 60lb valve spring so the valves don't float, but my dad has a 3kgsk in his 5spd and its a lot of fun to drive but he also has 3.54's so his truck would do 95mph stock and my truck with 4.10's would barely do 85 once i get my 4kgsk on i should be able to do at least 100, which will be nice.

agreed on the valve springs. im doin the 4k kit but keepin it below 3200 til i put my valve springs in. im doin them when i take my head off this winter since its alot easier to do it that way. i would reccomend the 3k kit if you just want a little more pep. but if you want to do a bigger turbo (maybe twins), injectors and move some serious power through it down the road, i would invest in a 4k just so you dont have to do it again.

Thanks for the reply guys.
The trans is not stock and I can peg 32psi. If i tow in third locked up with out the Gear Vnedor on it will tow about 60 mph, will the rpm be higher with the 3K? I just read where someone installed a 14cm turbo housing and plans on changingthe wheel to a diffrent size, can that be done and what dose that do for the performance I have a 14cm and one more thing if i get rid of the cat that thing most have years of crap in it would that help to. Sorry for all the questions.

The 3k will just let you have a few more fuel at higher RPM but under 2500 or so it is all the same just a little more sinsitive peddle. I have the 4K , #10 ( but have a 5 speed with the 215hp pump) and tow a lot but when you get about 2700 or so the egt's go up fast. With a #10 in a real tow rig like yours the auto may not like it but may be fine you may be about at the limit of the stock auto now. I think in an auto a temp guage is almost as vital as a pyro. The 3K kit should do no harm with the auto you have a 180pump and the #10 on a stock truck clames to put you at 220hp 270tq but TST chart say you may be ok with a #8 (230hp605tq) or #6 (250hp635tq) but the #5 ( 270hp675tq) the stock auto will not hold. This is just on paper on a stock truck You will just have to use your head and not get to big. You can grind your oun with a timplet like I have of an orig TST plate and make one from your stock one and then see how it dose and if you need more you can re grind it. Trans upgread would be a good idea.

10 plates with a 3K gov kit will work good with your auto. A 10 plate with a properly adjusted gov arm fuels fairly light at low RPM, gradually increases from about 1800RPM and cuts the fuel back a bit at high RPM to help with EGTs. The light fueling at lower RPMs will give your tranny time to build up some pressure to hold the power better.

Think of how plates work in terms of sliding any plate forward. Sliding a plate forward allows the gov arm to move forward thus increasing fuel. The gov arm starts at the bottom and moves up as RPM increases. Now look at a plate. Notice how it's cut for about 1/2" from bottom to top. This will show you how much fueling you'll get, and where, through the RPM range.

What Berner said. The 3kGSK + #10 is a good combo, predictable and controlable. With your GV it will be even better, you will be able to climb at the RPM for acceptable EGT and good speed. Still, keep your eye on the EGT gauge because the #10 is capable of high temp if you move it too far forward. Use your GV to raise RPM a notch and drop the EGT.
