GS3K + #10 or #6 plate?

I see a lot of guys running the #10 plate instead of the #6, just wondering if you lose some power up top that the #6 would have given if you have the #10 installed. Do you still need to adjust the governor arm with the #10?

Yes, anytime you move the fuel plate forward you need to adjust the govener arm. If you look at a #10 plate the bottom lip is shorter as are any of the other aftermarket fuel plates even if you put a #10 in the stock location you still need to adjust your govenor arm. Thier are some pics of the plates on here somewhere do alittle searching and maybe you can find them.A #100 plate will get you hot quickly if your not watching your gauges a #10 is the best I think but thats just me other people might like something else. I'm still running the 100 because I ground it myself and its all I got and need another one to grind or just breakdown and buy a #10.

If you install most any plate in the stock position there is no need to adjust the gov arm.
Always check though.

I have a 95 auto, so I have the 160 pump. I am a little confused about the 5 and 10 plate. A few people have said to get the 10 and just push it foward. So which is better a #5 making 255/650 in the stock location or the #10 200/550 pushed foward? Also when does the 5 and 10 begin fueling hard? I have read that the #5 won't fuel hard until 1800rpm, what about the #10? I can only afford one plate right now and I do tow about 50% of the time. Sorry for my rambling post.

The 5 will fuel much sooner than 1800. More like 1300-1400 RPM. But a stock auto won't like it. Get the 5, and move it forward.

Downlow, you should check the arm to make sure it hits near the bottom of the plate. Whether you move it or not, I'd do this. Especially if it feels like there is no bottom end.

downlow,

I had some free time yesterday and checked my govener arm adjustment since my stock plate is pushed foward. It was way off! The tip was hitting just under the defueling point. I adjusted the tip about 1/4" down until it was flush with the bottom of my fuel plate. Wow! what a diffrence, my truck pulls much harder now. IMHO it is a must to check and adjust your govener arm. It is a B***h to do the first time.

Does anyone have a picture of a #5 and #6? I can't find a good side view anywhere.

I think Infidel has pics of plate profiles in his images folder.
When I did the adjustment on mine with the #6 I went with the suggestion of a write-up on piers' site (I think.. maybe TST?) and they recommended setting the governor arm to contact the nose at the bottom of the plate and not to ride under that.
I had some very bad power loss the first time through when adjusted it too low and it hung up on the nose instead of following it.
I turned the key on in the ignition and pushed the solenoid up where it latched, then turned the throttle by hand while watching where the arm contacted the plate. Tinker with that adjustment until it looks right.

Personally, If i were you; I would skip the plate, and keep your stock one full forward, and put a 3k GSK in. It will make a lot more difference in how your truck run/pulls then the plate will with a stock tranny, and it wont be hard ont he tranny. I like the #5 pretty good myself. Im afraid you will slip your converter with anything more than the stock plate full forward if you are pulling much weight. The GSK wont help you much once the converter locks, but up until then it will be a world of difference. And you can hit hills at 2800rpm's in 3rd gear if you want with a load then so that you never have to downgear, and you arent lugging. The GSK with the plate forward just seems to be the overall best mod for the $ with a stock auto. Make sure you have gauges though. Mine would get pretty hot with the aftermarket plate and GSK before the timing advance. It is fine now though. I dont think you will have EGT problems with still the stock plate, and a GSK, but i would have gauges anyway. Good luck

Eric
