Got the Bug!

Got the Bug!
Just about finished the 4 inch exhaust pipe. My thanks to all that offered their help and advice. THe job has gone pretty well consisdering that my welding looks like a pile of camel dung stuck on a log. I kept the 3 inch down pipe to the second elbow and went 4 inch from there out all the way to the rear wheel. Had to put a 5 inch tip on it. Just didn't seem right without it. Drove it to the store to get a couple clamps to hold the mounting straps and it sounds real good. Seems to spin the turbo a little faster but I haven't taken it out on the open road to really wing it. Sure would like to know what I am putting to the ground. Our local auto machine shop got rid of his chassi dyno because it kept him at work on the weekends and late in the evening. He has plenty of money so he doesn't need to work. He sold it to Charley Daniels Racing. They maintain a really clean shop and I doubt they want coal oil smoke all over their walls. Well, time to get back to the job at hand and a test ride BHAF is next.

More on exhaust change..........This job is done! The pipes sound good, even with the 47 dollar glass pack. There is a noticable difference mid range. It is a little quicker but it now falls flat just before it shifts. I haven't messed with the timing yet and there are a couple of screws that need turning on the pump but I think I will wait until I make an Old Somkey mount and install a BHAF. It turns some heads now. Wonder what they are thinking seeing a bald headed old fuss (misspelled) like me spinning wheels and acting foolish?

See if you can find a pump shop near you, that's the cheapest place. You can get it from PDR, too, but with the markup on the part and the shipping from BC it pays to try to find it local.
The install is kinda nerve racking, and it really helps to have an extra pair of hands. It's well worth doing, though. It really makes a huge difference in the way the truck drives.

It will help you keep the trans temp down while still going 70 up a hill - since you won't need to be in OD to do it. The TC slips less at high RPM, which keeps the trans cooler - and keeps extra heat out of the engine coolant. More RPM under a heavy load is better all around.
